A couple is on the run from the law after killing a police officer in self-defence in the new drama film Queen & Slim.
What sour luck for this young couple, considering the incident takes place on their first date!
You may wonder why the couple, played by Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith go down such a dangerous path before even getting to know each other properly, and it can only be surmised that the event forges a bond between them unlike no other.
The trailer gives us a brief intro to the characters before outlining the key factor that sets off the events of the film, and then offers up quick cuts on the journey the two take together afterwards.
Obviously inspired by the Bonnie & Clyde story and reminiscent of such films like Terrence Malick’s Badlands (1973), Queen & Slim may not bring much new to the table, however, the story is one that’s timeless and always entertaining to watch.
Daniel Kaluuya is making waves in Hollywood right now after breaking out in Jordan Peele’s Get Out (2017) and then going on to star in Steve McQueen’s Widows (2018) and Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther (2018).
His co-lead, Jodie Turner-Smith isn’t a well-recognised name just yet, but this could be the film to put her on the map.
Bokeem Woodbine co-stars and the film is directed by a relative newcomer to the feature film-directing game, Melina Matsoukas.
While the trailer predominantly plays out like a teaser, it’s more than enough to get audiences excited for this one.
It arrives in cinemas on 27 November 2019.
