‘The Promise’ – Trailer for New Period Drama

promise

Oscar Isaac and Christian Bale star in this drama set in the last days of the Ottoman Empire, by Terry George, the director of Hotel Rwanda.

This first-time pairing between these two popular actors makes for some intriguing viewing in The Promise, which looks like it has the goods as far as period dramas go.

Going by the trailer, the film looks like it will be multilayered, with war themes as well as a love-triangle angle, between the two male stars and the female lead in French-Canadian Charlotte Le Bon.

The film is directed by Oscar winner Terry George, who wrote and directed Hotel Rwanda, but also holds a screenplay writing credit for the Daniel Day Lewis film In the Name of the Father, so his pedigree of work is of a high quality.

With its great cast and stunning art direction as you’ll see in the trailer below, the film is definitely one to keep an eye out for.

It’s screening at the Toronto International Film Festival on 11 September 2016 however there is no official release date as yet, internationally or locally.

IMDB Synopsis:

Set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire, The Promise follows a love triangle between Michael, a brilliant medical student, the beautiful and sophisticated Ana, and Chris – a renowned American journalist based in Paris.
