Disney Pixar’s latest animated film, Onward, features two elvish brothers set out on a quest to find the magic required to bring their late father back for a day.
In a world filled with fantastical creatures like elves, trolls, mermaids, centaurs, and other assorted fairy tale regulars, magic has taken a back seat to modern technology.
It still exists, though it is not as easy to conjure as it once was, so when two brothers, Ian and Barley Lightfoot (Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) uncover a spell left for them by their late father, they get mixed results.
Namely, their loving father is brought back to them from the dead for one day – but it’s only his lower half that returns.
The bros will need to seek the aid of the legendary Manticore (Octavia Spencer) and embark on a quest to find the magic they need to complete the spell and bring their father back.
This being a Pixar film, the family theme is strong here.
Themes of friendship, love, and loss are significant in this one too, just like in most other Pixar films, so fans can be sure to have their expectations met with Onward.
The new trailer gives us a good look at the film’s tone, humor, and gorgeous animation style.
Onward looks like it ticks all the boxes that make a good Disney Pixar animation, so this should be a hit for the powerhouse studio.
