The 1922 classic film Nosferatu gets the remake treatment, with Robert Eggers, director of The Witch (2015) set to direct.
You tend to roll your eyes a bit when you hear of yet another remake, however in this instance it’s welcoming knowing that Robbert Eggers will be at the helm of this one.
His film The Witch was a disturbing and haunting small film based on witch mythology, and received an excellent reception from horror fans and critics alike (see my review here).
There were no big pointy hats, green skin, big noses or flying broomsticks in that film, rather just pure, grounded slow-burning terror.
The 1922 classic German film Nosferatu features one of the earliest depictions of the vampire mythology on film, and featured the iconic title character (see image above), played by Max Schreck.
The silent film is one of the most well-known pieces of cinema from that period, and has also received a remake at the hands of Werner Herzog back in 1979, however we’ve yet to see one since then.
In Eggers hands, this could turn out amazing, and we’ll keep you posted as more details emerge.
In the meantime, check out the trailer for 1922’s Nosferatu below.
