The long-in-development biopic of the legendary hair-metal band Mötley Crüe will finally see the light of day on Netflix from director Jeff Tremaine of Jackass fame.
The Dirt is based on the autobiographical bestselling novel of the same name from author Neil Strauss and the band’s members themselves, originally published in 2001.
Talks of a movie based on the book have been thrown around in the eighteen years since it was released, and the film has finally been completed and will be coming to Netflix on 22 March 2019.
The film follows the stories of band members Nikki Sixx (Douglas Booth), Tommy Lee (Machine Gun Kelly), Mick Mars (Iwan Rheon) and Vince Neil (Daniel Webber), who collectively formed the 80’s hair-metal band Mötley Crüe.
Mötley Crüe went on to become one of the biggest bands of that sub-genre of metal and were equally, and infamously, known for their debauchery off the stage as they were for their music.
The book went into a lot of detail about the sordid antics the band got up to and we get glimpses of that in the film’s trailer.
On top of that, the band faced a series of personal setbacks while riding the rollercoaster of fame.
The film looks like a mostly generic music biopic based on the first trailer, however, coming from the director of the Jackass films as well as Bad Grandpa (2013), we can be sure to expect some hilarity along the way.
