Mads Mikkelsen and Vanessa Hudgens star in the upcoming action-packed Netflix Original crime film Polar.
Mikkelsen plays the retired hitman Duncan Vizla aka The Black Kaiser, who is forced out of retirement to face a group of up-and-coming assassins out for his head.
The film’s plot is fairly generic and judging by the trailer, it’s really not all that important.
Polar looks action-packed, which is the film’s biggest draw card.
It also doesn’t hurt that it has a great cast, with acclaimed actor Mads Mikkelsen in the lead, supported by Vanessa Hudgens, Katheryn Winnick and Matt Lucas (blink and you’ll miss him in the trailer) amongst others.
The film is directed by Swede Jonas Åkerlund, whose past credits include Spun (2002), the underrated Small Apartments (2012), and the upcoming Lords of Chaos (2018).
It’ll be Åkerlund’s first foray into action, and it’s always interesting to see a director go for something out of what they’re used to.
Polar has a big John Wick vibe to it which should please fans of that franchise as well as the particular retired-but-not-retired-hitman type movie.
The film is just one of hundreds of upcoming Netflix Original films, the company having invested billions into original programming recently.
