Lords of Chaos is the upcoming biographical horror story about the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem from Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund.
The film follows the story of Euronymous (Rory Culkin), one of the pioneers of the Norwegian black metal scene who formed the band Mayhem in Oslo, 1984.
The band and its members spiral down into horrifying territories that involve a series of church burnings, suicide and murder, all based on actual events.
Lords of Chaos is based on the book of the same name by authors Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind and comes to us from director Jonas Åkerlund, whose past credits include Spun (2002), Small Apartments (2012) and the upcoming Netflix action film Polar (2019).
The trailer starts off with a relatively light tone until audiences are introduced to the band member Varg (Emory Cohen), who appears to influence the shocking turn of events.
Åkerlund looks to have crafted a thrilling, dramatic story that will likely be full of violence and not possibly one for the faint-hearted.
It felt a bit strange having all the lead actors speak in American accents considering the film, events and band were all based in Norway, though it shouldn’t pull viewers out of the story too much.
Lords of Chaos is due for a theatrical release on 8 February 2019 in the US, check out the trailer below.
