Yet again, Liam Neeson plays a father on a mission of revenge in the upcoming action-thriller Cold Pursuit from Norwegian director Hans Petter Moland.
Neeson plays Nels, a snowplow driver in a resort town in the Rocky Mountains, who was recently awarded a ‘citizen of the year’ award.
Tragedy soon strikes, when Nels finds out his son has died from a heroin overdose.
This causes Nels to take what appears to be an open and shut case into his own hands and discovers that his son was tangled up with gangsters.
And, like most of Neeson’s recent work, Nels goes on a revenge mission to murder the men responsible for his son’s death.
It’s a familiar, generic plot and one that seems par for the course for a Liam Neeson film, however, as we see in the trailer, there’s a difference.
That being that there is an element of dark humour in this film.
Whereas his past films like the Taken (2008-14) series, A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014) and The Commuter (2018) all took themselves seriously, Cold Pursuit looks like it doesn’t, which works in its favour.
The deaths in this film also look somewhat creative judging by the trailer, which is also a bonus.
Cold Pursuit co-stars the outstanding Laura Dern and TV’s Shameless star Emmy Rossum.
It’s directed by Hans Petter Moland, who is remaking his own original Norwegian-language film In Order of Disappearance (2014) for a western audience.
Check it out in theatres on 7 February 2019.
