In some extremely speculative news that will likely go nowhere, Leonardo DiCaprio is apparently being sought after to play The Joker for Warner Bros.
The Joker role in question will not be in any of the Suicide Squad (2016) sequels, nor will it be in the recently announced Joker and Harley Quinn spin-off.
It will instead be in the SECOND Joker spin-off that Warner Bros. inexplicably has on the slate.
Clearly the studio are not content with making ridiculous and confusing films, and have now moved on up to also make ridiculous and confusing business decisions.
It will be interesting to see if there’s a public appetite for this much Joker, and if there is, Warner Bros. will have to hustle pretty hard to ensure the average movie-goer actually understands the continuity (or lack thereof), between these two films and the existing DC Extended Universe.
This spin-off will be directed by Hangover (2009) director Todd Phillips and produced by Martin Scorsese.
It won’t star Jared Leto in any capacity, hence the apparent desire for a prestige name like DiCaprio.
The Hollywood Reporter suggests the studio believe Martin Scorsese’s involvement may attract the Oscar winner to the role.
