First Trailer for Richard Linklater’s – ‘Last Flag Flying’

last flag flying trailer

The upcoming Richard Linklater film, Last Flag Flying, shows three middle-aged men reunited, three decades after they served in Vietnam together.

The movie is a light adaption and sequel to the 1973 Hal Ashby-directed comedy The Last Detail, and it stars Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston and Laurence Fishburne.

The trailer shows how the three men’s lives have all gone in different directions; Larry “Doc” Shepherd (Steve Carell) has lost his son who was serving in the core, and asks his old friends Sal (Bryan Cranston) and Mueller (Laurence Fishburne) to come with him to bury his son.

The film will hopefully focus on post-traumatic stress and how it has impacted the three men’s lives, with the trailer showing that each of them has dealt with their experiences differently.

Mueller for example, has gotten married and has become a Pastor, and Sal is still acting like a young bachelor thirty-years later.

The film is described as a comedy, but by the trailer it looks like it will feature a lot more than just a few gags.

Last Flag Flying has the potential to be a great film that tackles some difficult issues, and I look forward to seeing the story in full, to see what the film makes of these opportunities.

Last Flag Flying is in selected theaters from 17 of November 2017, after making its premiere at the New York Film Festival in late September 2017.
