The second trailer for the upcoming Tomb Raider movie reboot sees Alicia Vikander’s Lara Croft out on a quest to find her missing father, when she crosses paths with a troupe of villainous tomb raiders.
It’s a simple premise that could work well in keeping the film grounded, as well as giving us an insight into the character’s early days.
The family-drama angle, while not original in any way is still a nice addition to the film’s multiple plot points, one of which unfortunately, revolves around taking down a villain that threatens global existence.
It appears Hollywood ran out of ideas a long time ago when it came to coming up with fresh concepts for their action movie properties, so all we can really hope for this film is that it’s an entertaining ride.
It looks like the action is well handled and could make for some tense viewing, which is a bonus.
And Vikander, along with the film’s villain played by Walton Goggins are both fitting choices for the film’s protagonist and antagonist respectively.
It doesn’t appear like this movie will break the video-game movie curse, though this second trailer, with its sharp editing and the use of an empowering Beyoncé song does a good job at getting its viewers excited for the film.
Tomb Raider is due out on 15 March 2018 in Australia, and is directed by Roar Uthaug – the Norwegian director responsible for 2015’s The Wave – which wasn’t bad at all.
