What do Kong: Skull Island and Apocalypse Now have in common? Well, probably nothing except for this awesome new tribute poster.
This newly released poster for the upcoming monster-movie featuring the king of the apes pays homage to one of the greatest war films of all time, Apocalypse Now (1979).
Apocalypse Now is one of Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpieces (yes, one of), which became an instant classic after its release and has since etched a place in cinematic history as one of the greats.
It stars Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall and the late Marlon Brando, in a film about the horrors of war, in what was a notoriously difficult shoot (see the 1991 documentary Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse).
It all paid off in the end though, giving director Coppola another classic hit to add to his impressive list of films.
So what does that film have to do with Kong: Skull Island?
Aside from both being shot in a jungle, I can’t imagine too much else.
There may be some thematic and visual design crossovers, however I can’t see the new Kong film being anything more than a standard effects-driven blockbuster.
Check out the new Kong poster below and how it compares to the original Apocalypse Now poster.
See Kong: Skull Island in Australian cinemas from 9 March 2017.
