The second trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom dropped at this year’s Super Bowl, featuring more dinosaur action with somewhat of a horror twist.
The opening part of the trailer is almost like something straight out of a horror film, which is a nice departure from the family friendly, generic action film 2015’s Jurassic World turned out to be.
The first film wasn’t all too bad, but Fallen Kingdom looks like a certain improvement over its predecessor.
J.A. Bayona is at the helm of the sequel, who has had experience with epic disaster movies, horrors and monster movies in the past (see 2007’s The Orphanage, 2012’s The Impossible and 2016’s A Monster Calls).
Fallen Kingdom looks like a combination of all of the director’s favourite genres, as well as a nice throwback to Spielberg’s original 1993 film.
The potential is there, however the plot does not appear to be very unique.
The dinosaur theme park is facing total destruction after a volcano erupts, and Chris Pratt’s and Bryce Dallas Howard’s characters set out to save the dinosaurs from another extinction.
Along the way they’ll have to try and survive from being killed by the island’s predatory dinosaurs, including a new, genetically modified dino (which has already been done before in this franchise).
No matter how the film plays out from a critical perspective, it’s fair to say that it will be a hit with audiences, and make for an entertaining cinematic experience – which is all you can really ask for from a film like this.
Check out the new trailer below.
It hits cinemas on 7 June 2018.
