Kiwi director Taika Waititi is back with his signature style in his latest film Jojo Rabbit, an anti-hate satire set in the confines of WWII.
Jojo (Roman Griffin Davis) is a young boy whose view of the world changes when he discovers that his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) from the Nazi’s in their family basement.
He’ll need to then come to terms with the way of the world alongside his imaginary best friend, Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi).
Waititi’s particular style, developed over the course of his career with films like What We Do in the Shadows (2014), Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) and Thor: Ragnarok (2017) is all over this new teaser.
His humour is dry, witty, satirical, and tongue-in-cheek; one that legions of fans have come to love.
Jojo Rabbit has a unique aesthetic that’s almost dream-like, reminiscent of Wes Anderson’s films (do you agree?).
It looks like the type of film that will be thought-provoking as well as heartfelt and humorous, which is exactly the type of film Waititi is best known for producing.
Featuring a great cast that also includes Stephen Merchant, Rebel Wilson, Alfie Allen and Sam Rockwell amongst the above-mentioned actors, Jojo Rabbit is set for release on 18 October 2019.
