It’s the Jake Gyllenhaal Show in Trailer for Tense Netflix Thriller ‘The Guilty’

Jake Gyllenhaal best movies

Jake Gyllenhaal takes front and centre stage in the new Netflix thriller The Guilty from acclaimed director Antoine Fuqua.

Gyllenhaal plays Joe, a demoted police officer now working 911 emergency dispatch.

He receives a worrying call from a kidnapped woman, and his instincts kick in as he tries to solve the case from behind a desk.

The Guilty falls into the category of one-man-show movies, think Locke (2013) and Buried (2010), which sees the film’s lead carry the entire movie on their performance.

Jake Gyllenhaal looks in fine form based on the film’s first trailer and should have no problem driving the narrative in a confined space.

The writing is what makes a film like this work, relying on the information we hear rather than what we’re shown to keep the suspense high.

Award-winning writer of TV’s True Detective, Nic Pizzolatto, takes credit here and looks to have written a riveting script.

With Antoine Fuqua at the helm behind the scenes, Pizzolatto with the screenplay and Gyllenhaal front and centre on-screen, The Guilty should make for some quality viewing for Netflix.

Paul Dano, Ethan Hawke, Riley Keough, and Peter Sarsgaard co-star, though it’s not known in what capacity.

The Guilty looks like a film full of twists and turns and hits Netflix on October 1, 2021.
