Sure, we’ve seen Neeson make this movie over and over again, but Honest Thief still looks worthy of a watch.
Neeson plays a former bank robber who seeks redemption by attempting to turn himself in to the FBI and return any profits made from his crime spree.
His newfound honesty comes after meeting the love of his life, with whom he wishes to spend the rest of his days, without any secrets.
As often goes with these types of plots, however, is that the FBI agents sent to claim his money happen to be crooked, forcing Neeson’s character to brutally battle to save his own life, defeat the crooked agents and protect the one he loves.
It’s run-of-the-mill stuff and the tone is not too far removed from other Liam Neeson action flicks such as Taken (2008), Non-Stop (2014), Unknown (2011), A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014), Run All Night (2015), The Commuter (2018), and more recently, Cold Pursuit (2019).
All of the above films have the same style and feel with basic variances in their stories, which may be tiresome for some, but are still entertaining when you’re in the mood for some mindless viewing.
Neeson has been keeping busy making non-action films as well, though his star is now synonymous with the action genre, and he’s become one of the best at it and seems to be having a lot of fun making these movies.
Honest Thief is due to arrive on 9 October 2020.
