Trailer for High-Concept Kickstarter Film Project ‘Book of Monsters’

high concept movies

The trailer for high-concept Kickstarter movie project Book of Monsters shows writer Paul Butler and director Stewart Sparke are clearly genre fans.

Starring Lyndsey Craine, Michaela Longden and Lizzie Stanton, this crowdfunded film is full of obvious references to classic horror movies.

Slightly less clever than Cabin in the Woods (2012), the movie subverts the ‘final girl’ cliche of horror with a full female cast.

The film’s main concept is that fans get to choose the monsters that would appear in the movie via Kickstarter.

The setup seems pretty obvious; at an 18th birthday party, a ‘Necronomicon’ (Evil Dead-style spellbook) calls up a variety of squishy, otherworldly monsters who unleash horrors on a group of party goers.

The six female stars are then tasked with the role of holding back the hellish hordes.

The writing and directing look pretty mediocre on this one, with some fun gore and effects.

The main appeal of Book of Monsters appears to be the unique method of crowdsourcing the ghouls, gnomes and other creepy entities, by allowing the fans to choose.

It’s fairly interesting to see the choices which fans had to choose from.

Check out the trailer and let us know if you think this shlocky horror flick will live up to fan expectations.

The film is due for release sometime in 2018.
