The first trailer for Mel Gibson’s film Hacksaw Ridge has just dropped in what could be Gibson’s finest directorial effort to date.
So it might not top Braveheart, considering it was a masterpiece that won five Oscars, however going by the trailer, Hacksaw Ridge looks like it could be a contender.
The film looks like it will be full of drama, action and intrigue, all elements which were also found in Braveheart – and they’re both war epics.
In Hacksaw Ridge, Andrew Garfield plays a soldier who refuses to carry a weapon and kill anyone on the battlefield of war.
Because of his stance, he’s scrutinised by his fellow soldiers as well as commanding officers, however he sticks true to his beliefs and becomes a hero.
It’s based on the true story of Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who was the first Conscientious Objector to receive a Medal of Honour, which is the highest achievement an American Army officer can earn.
This is Mel Gibson’s fifth directorial effort, but his first film in ten years and it stars Andrew Garfield, along with supporting actors Sam Worthington, Teresa Palmer, Vince Vaughn and Hugo Weaving.
It’s due out for release on November 4 in the USA and it should make an impact on awards season.
IMDB Synopsis:
WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people and becomes the first Conscientious Objector in American history to be awarded the Medal of Honor.
