‘Going in Style’ – Trailer for New Morgan Freeman Comedy

going in style

Going in Style features an all-star cast that includes Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin in this upcoming crime caper.

When their pension funds are lost to the bank, three elderly lifelong friends decide to turn to a life of crime and rob the bank responsible for losing their safety net.

The premise of this film sounds extremely familiar, maybe because it’s virtually the same as a small British film released recently called Golden Years (see my review here).

That was a film worth seeing that will unfortunately most likely fly under the radar.

Going in Style should however be widely available to audiences, considering it has a cast of three legendary actors; all Oscar-winners.

The trailer for this film also reminded me of Stand Up Guys (2012), but mostly because that film also starred a group of legendary elderly actors in a crime-comedy film – though it wasn’t very good.

Going in Style looks like it will be a bit of fun, with a fair amount of self-deprecating humour.

It should also have some more serious thematic undertones like Golden Years did (losing one’s pension is no joke), though the film will be lighthearted in tone overall.

It’s directed by Zach Braff, whom most people will know from the TV series Scrubs, and is due for release on 7 April 2017 in the USA.
