New Generation of Ghostbusters Feature in ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Trailer

Ghostbusters Afterlife new trailer

The Ghostbusters franchise has received a new lease on life in the upcoming reboot film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife from director Jason Reitman.

A couple of kids discover a family connection to the original Ghostbusters when a run-down home they’ve inherited from their late grandfather begins to exhibit some strange behaviour.

They’ll find the classic Ecto car along with the ghost-catching tools used by the Ghostbusters and begin their own journey to capture the spooky spectres running amuck in their small town.

Afterlife feels like a true continuation of the original Ghostbusters franchise which debuted in 1984 and spawned a sequel in 1989.

Those films became cult classics and it wasn’t until 2016 when Paul Feig rebooted the franchise with an all-female leading cast, that unfortunately missed the mark and received mostly unfavourable reviews.

Ivan Reitman directed the original Ghostbusters and this time around his son, Jason Reitman, is at the helm.

The younger Reitman is known for films such as The Front Runner (2018), Tully (2016) and Up in the Air (2009).

The first trailer for Afterlife sets the tone for the upcoming film and there’s definitely a Spielberg-ian vibe to it which is nice.

There’s no sign of much humour in it though, an aspect of which the original film was known and loved for.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd, and original franchise stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver are set to make an appearance.

The film looks promising judging by this first trailer and the franchise appears to be headed in the right direction.

See it in cinemas from 10 July 2020.
