Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding star in the new feel-good romantic comedy, Last Christmas, from popular director Paul Feig.
A retail store elf (Clarke) in a Christmas themed shop, whose life appears to be going nowhere meets Tom (Golding), a happy-go-lucky guy who will change her life for the better.
Oh, and the two fall in love along the way, as these stories go.
Last Christmas doesn’t seem to bring much new to the rom-com sub-genre, though the film’s screenplay is written by Oscar-winning screenwriter (and actress), Emma Thompson (who also has a starring role here), and is directed by Paul Feig, who never puts out a bad film (ok, almost never).
Feig’s best known for directing comedy hits like Bridesmaids (2011), The Heat (2013) and Spy (2015), along with the much-maligned Ghostbusters (2016) and the surprisingly good A Simple Favor (2018).
So his track record is somewhat of a mixed bag if we’re being honest, but when he does provide the goods, they’re really good(s).
The film’s trailer features all the rom-com tropes that viewers have come to expect from films like these, though it is pretty charming nonetheless, and should provide some giggles.
Last Christmas will be Emilia Clarke’s second film credit for the year, alongside the as-yet-unreleased Above Suspicion, following on from 2018’s flop, Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Golding has been quietly making a name for himself after breaking out in Crazy Rich Asians (2018), so this one should only help further his career.
Last Christmas releases on 8 November 2019.
