Ed Harris, John Hamm and Lewis Pullman (son of actor Bill Pullman) have all been cast in the long-awaited sequel Top Gun: Maverick.
Deadline reports the news, however, no information has been released about their characters as yet.
This addition to the cast follows on from the exciting news that Val Kilmer has also returned, as well as Miles Teller, Glen Powell and Monica Barbaro.
TRON: Legacy (2010) director Joseph Kosinski directs this new instalment with Cruise returning, this time as a flight instructor to a new band of elite young pilots.
Considering there is a thirty-three-year gap between the original and Top Gun: Maverick, a more modern sequel is expected to be produced, with Kosinski making this film his own.
Due to the stacked cast and the meltdown caused when Cruise tweeted a picture of himself in a flight suit with the caption “#Day1”, referring to the first day of filming, development of Top Gun 2 has the world excitedly watching and waiting.
It’s unclear what roles Harris, Hamm and Pullman will play but speculation suggests Harris and Hamm may take up additional flight instructor roles, while Pullman may have been cast as a student, alongside Teller.
While Harris and Hamm are proven versatile actors, they are also synonymous for their intense, gritty character portrayals.
This adds another dynamic to the Top Gun 2 machine and may pull in the more cynical film-goer.
Will this cast bring the goods?
We’ll find out on 12 July 2019!
