Dysfunctional Family Bands Together for Robot Uprising in ‘Connected’

Dysfunctional families in movies

A typically dysfunctional modern family head on a road trip to accommodate their eldest to college when a robot uprising interrupts their bonding time in Connected.

From the team that brought the world the hugely popular Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018 comes the new animated film Connected.

It follows the story of a technology-obsessed young woman who is about to leave home for college, though after having a little tiff with her father, is forced to accompany him, and the rest of her family on a road trip to get her there.

Along the way, a new robot-assistant device is unveiled to the world, which eventually gets a mind of its own and begins an uprising.

This dysfunctional family will have to overcome their differences and band together to save the world.

The trailer begins with an intriguing look at how technology (mobile phones, laptops, etc) can get in the way of a real, family connection, before revealing the robot uprising aspect of the film about halfway through.

The family dynamic makes for the most interesting part of this film, with the whole robot storyline feeling somewhat out of place.

Nevertheless, Connected features quite a lot to enjoy between its impressive animation style and the chemistry between its characters.

It features the voice talents of Olivia Colman, Maya Rudolph, Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride, Eric André, and Michael Rianda, and is due for release on 18 September 2020.
