Much like the Pirates of the Caribbean Disneyland ride that was turned into a film franchise before it, Jungle Cruise will get the next cinematic treatment.
Emily Blunt plays an explorer on a research mission who enlists the services of a riverboat captain played by Dwayne Johnson.
For the right price, the captain takes Blunt and her group of travellers through a supernatural jungle filled with dangerous creatures.
Fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean (2003-) film series will feel right at home with Jungle Cruise.
Pirates was based on the popular Disneyland ride of the same name and has thus far spawned five swashbuckling high-sea adventure films with Johnny Depp front-and-centre.
Come 2019 and two of the hottest tickets in town are Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, ready to take another one of Disneyland’s rides to the big screen.
Judging by this first trailer, Jungle Cruise looks like a lot of fun and will certainly be adored by a younger audience.
All of the swashbuckling adventure elements from the Pirates films are featured in this one also, though the ocean has been swapped for the jungle.
There should be lots of humour and adventure and considering the star-power, it’s almost certain this film will be a hit for Disney.
Jungle Cruise features a supporting cast that includes Edgar Ramirez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons and Paul Giamatti.
Jaume Collet-Serra directs his first massive-budget blockbuster film after coming off the likes of smaller action-thrillers the likes of The Commuter (2018), The Shallows (2016) and Run All Night (2015).
Jungle Cruise hits cinemas on 23 July 2020.
