The Green Knight is a new dark fantasy film from A24 that features Dev Patel in the lead role and is based on a classic Arthurian tale.
Patel plays Sir Gawain, the nephew of King Arthur, who sets out on a journey to confront the monstrous Green Knight as his virtues are tested along the way.
The film is based on the 14th-century chivalric romance poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and is directed by acclaimed director David Lowery.
The first teaser trailer doesn’t delve too much into the plot, rather we’re treated to a series of visuals from the film which all look impressive.
There’s an element of realism blended perfectly with dark fantasy and romanticism, which at the very least makes for some stunning imagery.
The trailer also had a serious Midsommar (2019) vibe to it so it’s very possible that The Green Knight will have elements of horror running through it.
Dev Patel is joined by Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, Alicia Vikander, and Sean Harris in supporting roles.
Lowery’s last film was the well-received The Old Man & the Gun (2018) with Robert Redford and prior to that he directed the highly acclaimed A Ghost Story (2017) for A24.
The Green Knight is scheduled for release on 29 May 2020.
