The stylish first trailer for the upcoming thriller film Detour has been released, starring young up-and-comer Tye Sheridan.
I still don’t have much idea as to what this film will be about after watching the trailer (the synopsis below comes in handy here), however it looks pretty stylish and cool.
The film stars up-and-coming talent Tye Sheridan, who put in a very impressive performance in 2012’s Mud, and recently broke out in the mainstream after starring in this year’s X-Men: Apocalypse as the young Cyclops/Scott Summers.
The actor has lots of potential and this film could the one to showcase it, as he has star-credit here.
Detour also stars Emory Cohen, Bel Powley and Stephen Moyer, whom TV fans will recognise as vampire Bill from True Blood.
The intriguing thing about Detour is that it looks like it will have two narratives running side-by-side – where it seems one version will tell the events as they happen, while the other may show an alternate turn of events.
If that’s how it goes down then it may be hard to pull off, however it’s an interesting concept if the filmmakers can get it right.
Detour is directed by Christopher Smith and is due out for release on 20 January 2017 in the USA.

The official synopsis for the film is as follows:
Harper (Tye Sheridan), a seemingly naive law student, obsesses over the idea that his shifty stepfather was involved in the devastating car crash that left his mother hospitalized and comatose. He drowns his suspicions in whiskey until he finds himself suddenly engrossed in conversation with volatile grifter Johnny (Emory Cohen) and his stripper companion, Cherry (Bel Powley). As daylight breaks and the haziness of promises made becomes clearer, how will Harper handle the repercussions (not to mention the violent duo—on his doorstep)? Employing a split-narrative structure to tell this tale of deception and murder, Christopher Smith takes his audience on a thrill ride full of hairpin turns, where it’s never quite clear what or who can be trusted.
