Pine plays the Scottish ‘Outlaw King’ Robert the Bruce in this untold story of how Scotland came together to defeat the English army and reclaim its country.
Declared an outlaw by the King of England (Stephen Dillane), Robert the Bruce and his fellow Scotsmen must rise up and use cunning to defeat an English army that outnumbers them dramatically.
As we are shown in the film’s trailer, the Bruce and his men infiltrate each English stronghold one at a time to help weaken English forces.
Set around the same medieval period as the 1995 Oscar-winning film Braveheart, Outlaw King continues on the story of Scotland’s rise to independence from English rule.
And much like Braveheart, many heads will roll during the process.
Pine reunites with his Hell or High Water (2016) director David Mackenzie for this one, and the film also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Florence Pugh, Billy Howle, Tony Curran and Stephen Dillane.
The production value appears to be of a high value, which falls in line with Netflix’s spending habits on its original productions of late.
As the streaming giant continues to dominate the space moving forward, we can be sure to expect more high-quality films featuring A-listers like Outlaw King.
It drops on Netflix on 9 November 2018 as well as in select theatres.
