A new Charlie’s Angels project has officially been given the go-ahead from director Elizabeth Banks and will feature Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska as the Angels.
As well as directing, Banks will also play Bosley, the representative or face of the never-seen Charlie Townsend.
Word on the web suggests the movie “takes the detective agency premise of the original television series and turn-of-the-century movies and takes it global, with the Townsend Agency now a worldwide security and intelligence service that has teams around the planet.
The movie will focus on one of those teams and the next generation of Angels”.
“Charlie’s Angels, for me, is one of the original brands to celebrate the empowered woman since its debut in the 70’s.
This film honours the legacy of Charles Townsend and his agency while introducing a new era of modern and global Angels.
I couldn’t be more excited to work with Kristen, Naomi and Ella to bring this chapter to fans around the world,” said Banks.
This will be the second time around for Banks in a film-directing role, her last outing being Pitch Perfect 2 in 2015.
Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu previously starred in Charlie’s Angels and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle as the high kicking, sassy trio way back in 2000/2003.
Personally, I hope Banks manages to retain the much-loved, carefree, but determined attitude adopted by the Angel characters in both the TV series and previous films.
The film is scheduled for release in 2019.
Interesting Fact:
Drew Barrymore bought the screen rights to Charlie’s Angels (1976) prior to the movie being filmed – a decision that earned her an estimated $40 million for the first and a possible $80 million for the second.
