British vs American Comedy: The Difference – Video

the office

With the release of the film David Brent: Life on the Road around the corner, check out this video that compares British and American comedy.

The video features mostly British and American TV shows, but the humour carries over to films as well.

It’s not an elaborate theory on the differences between the two styles, but the most interesting point made in the video is that American humour is full of optimism in comparison to British humour, which can also directly relate to each nation’s culture.

That comparison is clearly evident when they compare the characters David Brent from the UK Office TV show with Michael Scott of the American Office TV show.

While that is a good observation, it’s not as clear cut as that and you’ll see in the video that American humour has it’s own fair share of pessimistic comedies.

The video features clips from Monty Python, Spongebob Squarepants, The Office, Seinfeld, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Louie.

David Brent: Life on the Road is out on 25 August 2016 in Australia.

PS. SPOILERS in the video below.
