From the director of Bend it Like Beckham (2002) comes the new coming-of-age 80’s set dramedy, Blinded by the Light, featuring the music of Bruce Springsteen.
It’s 1987 England and teenager Javed (Viveik Kalra) dreams of becoming a writer.
His family’s conservative values and the pressures of high-school will make him question his beliefs and ambitions until he comes across the music of American rock icon Bruce Springsteen.
Immediately hooked, Springsteen’s music resonates with Javed so much that he gains the confidence to pursue his dreams and tackle his problems head-on.
We can expect a fairly typical coming-of-age story with Blinded by the Light based on its trailer, though even still, it seems to work superbly.
The trailer alone will have you grinning from ear-to-ear, so I can only imagine how uplifting the full feature will be.
The film is inspired by real-life events and continues the trend of music-related films that have been hitting our screens within the last year or so, as well as the many due in the near future.
Blinded by the Light particularly reminded me of The Beatles-focused fantasy-comedy-drama film Yesterday, at least in tone, which also looked awesome.
The film is due out in cinemas soon, check out the cool trailer below.
