The 1989 Keanu Reeves comedy film Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure gets the Honest Trailer treatment, bringing about an enormous sense of nostalgia.
I’m not sure whether or not kids these days have gotten onto this film yet, but one thing I know for certain is that this was THE pivotal buddy-comedy for people that grew up in the 90’s.
As the announcer mentions in the trailer below, this came before Wayne’s World (1992) and Dumb and Dumber (1994), and one could even argue it served as somewhat of an inspiration to those films.
The film follows two dim-witted high-school friends who come across a time machine, using it to travel back in time to kidnap historical figures, so that they can use them in a history presentation at their school and pass their grades.
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure starred Keanu Reeves in one of his earliest screen roles, with the film’s popularity setting him up for an impressive career ahead.
It also starred Alex Winter, who seemed to drop off the radar afterwards, but he has been quietly directing and acting in the 25 or so years that have passed since the film’s release.
The film spawned a sequel two years later titled Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991), which had a bit more of a unique plot, but was just as equally funny.
The Honest Trailer for this film points out some things that you just wouldn’t see in a mainstream buddy-film these days, so it’s interesting to see how far we’ve come in the time that’s passed, for better or worse.
