Batman: The Long Halloween parts one and two pits the caped crusader in his earlier days against a serial killer terrorising Gotham City.
Batman: The Long Halloween is based on the mid-90s comic book series of the same name by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale.
It sees Batman (Jensen Ackles) join forces with Police Captain James Gordon (Billy Burke) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Josh Duhamel) to take down the notorious Falcone crime family, who they believe to be behind a murder committed on Halloween.
After more connected murders occur on Thanksgiving and Christmas, Batman realises there’s a serial killer on the loose, dubbed the Holiday Killer.
Batman’s journey to find the killer is spread over two feature-length animated movies which cover a story arc thirteen comic books long.
Part One features a PG13 rating, while Part Two features an R rating, so you can expect to see some extra blood and violence in that second film.
Many of Batman’s Rogue Gallery members make an appearance, including the likes of Joker (Troy Baker), Catwoman (Naya Rivera), Solomon Grundy (Fred Tatasciore), The Penguin (David Dastmalchian), and more.
The animation style is consistent with various other DC animated Batman film properties, including the excellent The Killing Joke (2016), and it features a dark tone in line with the character’s persona.
Part One releases direct to video on 22 June 2021, with Part Two on 27 July.
