Veep creator Armando Iannucci tweeted a movie pitch about Donald Trump as a joke and now Hollywood is knocking on his door.
According to the Washington Post, a film pitch tweeted on the fly by Veep creator Armando Iannucci could become a reality.
In what seemed like a flippant joke, Iannucci wrote:
“Film pitch.. Trump drugged and moved to a replica Whitehouse, where he carries on thinking he’s governing. Millions spent on hiring actors to play his staff, Senators, news anchors, people at rallies.”
Wrapping up the tweet with a direct nod to the bigwigs of the film world, he wrote:
“There you go. Studios, your highest bid please.”
A cheeky nod but it seems to have worked.
That was Wednesday 5th September.
By Thursday the 6th, after Iannucci had received some very real offers (eight in total) from some very real major studios, he retweeted his pitch with the tagline:
“Er…looks like Hollywood’s interested. Now what do we do?”

Julia Louise-Dreyfus (star of Iannucci’s Veep) retweeted his pitch and committed to the potential project.
A follower already offered the most cleverly sublime working title, ‘Fake America Great Again’.
In a new tweet on September 8th, Iannucci called the new offers “unexpectedly exciting” and says he’s currently “mulling everything”.
Iannucci recently wrote and directed The Death Of Stalin (2017), a film about the chaos created after Stalin dies unexpectedly, as ambitious politicians double-cross each other in an effort to take his place.
It seems like a film about Trump could be his next dream project.
With eight studios interested, there is bound to be some news soon, lets just hope it isn’t fake news!
