Jeffrey Wright stars in the ghetto crime-drama film All Day and a Night for Netflix and it features some outstanding performances with a powerful story.
A young man’s life takes him down the wrong side of the tracks where he finds himself in prison alongside his father, whom he never wanted to be like.
Now with a newborn son of his own, he begins to reflect on the relationship between him and his own father, in an attempt to break the vicious familial cycle and show his baby son the right way forward.
All Day and a Night is a Netflix original film from director Joe Robert Cole, who was a co-writer on Marvel Studios’ Black Panther (2018).
It’s a big leap between the superhero film genre to a gritty, urban crime drama, though Cole’s creative talent is undeniable if this trailer is anything to go by.
The film has ‘powerhouse’ written all over it, with touching, profound themes, and high caliber performances from its leads Ashton Sanders, Jeffrey Wright, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
We don’t get too many generational family dramas like this one anymore and save for Moonlight (2016), they’re a rare bunch (or at least of this high a standard).
Check out All Day and a Night on Netflix from 1 May 2020.
