Superstar actor Michael Fassbender stars in the serial-killer crime-drama The Snowman, based on the best-selling book by the same name.
The film follows Fassbender’s character Detective Harry Hole, out investigating the murders of several women in an as yet unnamed snowy location.
The gruesome aspect of the murders – they’ve all been decapitated and the heads can’t be found.
I haven’t read the book by Jo Nesbø, but just going by this first trailer, there doesn’t seem to be too much of anything new in this film, that we haven’t seen before in other films in the same genre.
If that’s the case then it will come down to how well director Tomas Alfredson can keep the intensity and mystery up, along with the performances from the film’s actors.
Alfredson should be up to the task, having directed the awesome horror film Let the Right One In (2008), and we all know Fassbender has the goods in a wide variety of roles.
He’s also joined by a talented supporting cast in Rebecca Ferguson, Chloë Sevigny, J.K. Simmons, Charlotte Gainsbourg and… Val Kilmer?
It’s curious to see Val Kilmer’s name pop up in the IMDB cast list, and right up at the top with the other two main actors.
Kilmer hasn’t been in anything of note for years now, making me wonder what he’s doing in this film.
In any case I’m intrigued, and look forward to seeing this one when it releases across cinemas on 19 October 2017.
