Find out which big film Emilia Clarke has been cast in, along with the latest directing announcements for upcoming movies.
Emilia Clarke in New Star Wars Spinoff
It was recently announced that a standalone Han Solo film was in the works from Disney and Lucasfilm, with Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover cast as Solo and Lando Calrissian respectively.
The character out of the Star Wars universe is one of the most popular and recognisable from that franchise’s long history, so it wasn’t too surprising to hear he’d get his own film, especially now that Disney will be releasing about one new Star Wars related film per year.
Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has just signed on to appear in the film as well, however her specific role has yet to be revealed.
The Han Solo film will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and is due for release in 2018.
Mortal Kombat Reboot Finds its Director
Simon McQuoid has been hired to direct the upcoming Mortal Kombat film reboot.
Who? I hear you asking.
Well I don’t blame you as McQuoid has yet to direct a feature film and comes from a commercial directing background.
It sounds like a very strange choice to have such an inexperienced director in charge of this beloved franchise based on the popular video-game, however if James Wan selected him for the role then we have to trust his judgement.
Wan is producing the film, and both he and McQuoid are Aussies so we need to get behind them.

Deadpool 2 Gets a Director
Word out of Hollywood is that David Leitch has been confirmed to direct the sequel to 2016’s huge hit Deadpool.
That film’s original director, Tim Miller, was originally slated to direct the sequel, but recently left the project citing creative differences with the film’s star, Ryan Reynolds.
As far as replacements go, Leitch sounds like a good choice.
He recently co-directed the fan-favourite film John Wick (2014), and that film and Deadpool have various similarities between them when it comes to the action department and overall style.
Both had a unique style as well some articulate action sequences, so as long as Deadpool 2 gets an awesome script, the film should be in reasonably safe hands with Leitch directing.
Winnie the Pooh Live Action Film Gets its Director
Marc Forster has been given directing duties on the upcoming live action film adaptation of Disney’s Winnie the Pooh.
Forster has had a pretty average run of projects recently, which included World War Z (2013) and Quantum of Solace (2008).
World War Z was extremely average and Quantum of Solace the worst of the Daniel Crag Bond films in my opinion.
However, we shouldn’t forget that Forster has also directed some amazing films too, like Stranger Than Fiction (2006), Finding Neverland (2004) and Monster’s Ball (2001).
Disney knows what they’re doing when it comes to creating movies, though I’m still not sure I like this idea of them re-adapting all of their classic animated films into live-action – but as always, if the market’s there then there’s no harm in them sharing their timeless characters onto a whole new young audience.
