‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Trailer 2 Reveals More of the Hero’s Journey

The new trailer for Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon showcases more of its hero’s journey and the film’s stunning animation design.

Kelly Marie Tran of Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) fame voices Raya, a warrior who seeks the help of the last known dragon to unite a divided land’s people.

Expecting some type of a force to be reckoned with in the dragon, Sisu (Awkwafina), Raya is disappointed to find that Sisu is, essentially, the runt of the litter, and somewhat unuseful.

Nevertheless, the pair, along with a ragtag bunch of followers, team up to take on a great evil that is threatening to further divide the land’s people.

The newest trailer below teases a classic adventure story that sees Raya face a series of challenges where she’s forced to rely on teamwork, and friendship to overcome adversity.

The themes are one’s we’ve seen many times over, but they always still resonate with audiences of all ages.

Raya and the Last Dragon looks to separate itself from past Disney animated films like Moana (2016) by introducing a new world in which to explore.

This time, the filmmakers have used ancient China as an inspiration for the mythical land the film is set in, and it looks stunning.

The landscape and character design in this film are gorgeous, featuring cute characters that Disney is known for developing, perfect for selling merchandise.

Raya and the Last Dragon looks like a fun watch overall, and a welcome addition to Disney’s growing slate of animated films.

It releases in Australian cinemas from 4 March 2021 and on Disney+ with Premier Access (for an additional fee) the following day.

It’s due to release in the United States at the same time.
