The film adaptation of the popular Uncharted video game gets a new writer, which hopefully means it will actually get made soon.
There’s been talk of an Uncharted movie for years now but it seems to be stuck in development hell.
Variety reports that Sony has recruited Joe Carnahan to write the screenplay for the movie.
Joe Carnahan is an established writer and director and seems like a good choice to bring the video game series to life on the big screen.
He’s written and directed movies such as The A-Team, The Grey and more recently, Stretch – all decent action films.
His next directing gig will be the long-awaited Bad Boys 3, so directing duties have yet to be assigned for Uncharted.
For those not savvy to the Uncharted video games, they’re a Sony exclusive franchise that feature the lead character Drake, a treasure hunter and adventurer, not unlike Indiana Jones.
The games have been huge for Sony and are well known for their cinematic cut scenes and epic action sequences, and would make for an awesome film adaptation as long as the right crew is on board.
If this film gets made, who do you think should be cast in it?
My picks are Jake Gyllenhaal as Drake for the lead role as he can actually act and looks similar to Drake, Bradley Cooper for Drake’s brother Sam and William Hurt for Drake’s partner-in-crime Sully.
Sure I’m basing those selections based on looks more than anything, but they’re all extremely talented actors as well.
As far as a director goes, well there would be plenty that could do the series justice, however they should give it to someone established.
