Actor-singer Jennifer Hudson lends her amazing voice to honor the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, in the new biopic Respect.
Respect follows the life story of one of the music world’s most influential R&B and soul artists, Aretha Franklin.
Some of Franklin’s hit songs include “Respect”, after which the film is titled, “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”, and “I Say a Little Prayer” amongst many others.
With an unrivaled voice in the industry, Aretha Franklin received numerous musical accolades during her storied career but was also recognized for her work in civil rights activism.
Grammy-Award and Oscar-Award winning artist Jennifer Hudson has big shoes to fill in her portrayal of the Queen of Soul, though it seems like she’s perfect for the role based on the new teaser trailer below.
Hudson has the look and acting ability, and more importantly, the voice to do Franklin justice in a biopic.
Respect is directed by Liesl Tommy, whose past directing gigs include episodes of the Marvel TV show Jessica Jones and The Walking Dead.
While the trailer doesn’t give too much away about what to expect from Franklin’s story, we can see that it will be an uplifting story with lost of amazing music from the artist featured throughout.
It’s due for release in 2021.
