Apple Produces its First Film for Streaming Service with ‘The Banker’

Apple recently entered the streaming game with its TV+ service and they have now unveiled their first foray into motion picture distribution.

The Banker tells the story of two African American entrepreneurs (played by Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson) who take on the arduous task of buying a bank circa 1950’s America.

Considering the racial limitations of the time, the two men recruit a working-class white man (Nicholas Hoult) to pose as the face of their business endeavours in order to enter the market.

Their plan succeeds, making them two of the wealthiest real estate owners in the country, though they’ll soon become exposed and have the law on their backs.

The film is based on a true story of endurance during a time when African American people were shunned from society, let alone being able to buy property and run banks.

The Banker trailer looks promising and Anthony Mackie and Sam Jackson appear to be in excellent form.

It’s due for limited theatrical release on 6 December 2019, right in time for awards season, and it looks like we could have a contender here.

Apple will then stream it exclusively on its Apple TV+ service from 31 January 2020.

The streaming service, set to take on rivals like Netflix and Disney+ has now launched but it’s off to a rocky start, with only very limited programming at this time.

With the money Apple has behind them though, the process of building their streaming service is a marathon and not a sprint, so they’ll be sure to take their time playing catchup.
