A nanny gets her work cut out for her dealing with a couple of creepy kids in the new supernatural horror film, The Turning.
Mackenzie Davis plays Kate, a governess (old-time word for nanny) who is hired to look after two children after the death of their parents.
The kids begin to display signs of creepiness from the get-go, and Kate soon finds herself having to face some supernatural horrors that are shadowing them and the house.
The Turning is an interpretation on the 1898 horror novella by Henry James titled The Turn of the Screw.
The novella’s gothic-horror setting is captured exceptionally well in this film, as we can see that there has been some excellent attention to detail in the production design.
While it’s hard to say whether or not this film will be scary, there is definitely some imagery in this film that could have people squirming in their seats.
Finn Wolfhard, the young actor who is currently on a great run in Hollywood, featuring in the popular TV series Stranger Things, as well as having starring roles in IT (2017) and IT: Chapter Two (2019) and the upcoming The Addams Family (2019) animated film plays one half of the film’s child characters.
Brooklynn Prince, who recently had roles in The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019) and The Florida Project (2017) makes up the other half.
Mackenzie Davies is also making a case for herself in Hollywood as a leading lady, having previously featured in films like Tully (2018) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017), as well taking the lead role in this year’s Terminator: Dark Fate (please be good).
The Turning is directed by The Runaways (2010) director Floria Sigismondi and is due out on 24 January 2020, check out the trailer below.
