Trailer for ‘The First Purge’ Reveals How it All Began

the first purge trailer

In this alternate version of America, citizens are allowed one night each year to purge – that is to commit any crime they want over a 12 hour period in order to release their pent up anger (murder included).

The first Purge film released in 2013 and went on to become a bit of a sleeper hit.

It starred Ethan Hawke and Lena Heady, and when including this year’s The First Purge, would have spawned 3 sequels upon this new one’s release.

Not a bad effort for a small horror film that managed to get a huge following.

Unsurprisingly, the film is produced by Blumhouse, who have an excellent track record of producing low-budget horror films, that make a massive return at the box office.

For instance, the total budget of the first 3 Purge films came to about $25 million USD, with a total return of approximately $320 million USD across all films.

Not a bad effort at all.

The premise is ridiculous, but rather unique, and all the films in the series make for some great entertainment for horror fans.

They all feature a similar plot, one that follows a particular family or group of people over the course of the purge night, as they try to simply stay alive.

The films are super-violent, guilty-pleasure action-horrors; a winning formula that keeps bringing audiences back.

Check out the new trailer for the prequel film, The First Purge below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

The film hits US cinemas on July 4 2018.
