The final poster along with a bunch of new character posters have been released for Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
Luc Besson’s upcoming science-fiction film Valerian is a science-fiction fantasy-adventure film based on a series of French comic books called Valérian and Laureline.
Based on the footage we’ve seen so far (check out the trailer here), the film looks like it could be a spiritual successor to Besson’s fan-faovurite film The Fifth Element (1997) – or at least it could fit into that universe.
Fans of that film should definitely get something out of this, along with fans of Besson’s work in general.
While not all of his work has been great, there are a few standouts such as Léon: The Professional (1994), The Fifth Element and Angel-A (2005) that I hold in high regard, so am always excited to hear about a new movie to come from the director.
The official synopsis for the film is as follows:
In the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha—an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.
Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen, Rihanna and Ethan Hawke star, and the film hits cinemas on 10 August 2017.
