Singer/actor Jessie Buckley stars as an aspiring musician with a sketchy past in the upcoming music themed film Wild Rose.
Buckley plays Rose-Lynn Harlan, a young mum and incredible country-music singer that’s just been released from prison.
Upon her release, Harlan begins to sort her home and family life out while chasing her dreams of escaping Glasgow to make it big in Nashville.
Tom Harper’s Wild Rose addresses the themes of fighting against adversity and following one’s dreams, set to a dramatic, and at times humorous tone.
The film looks looks like it will feature many a music-film trope, which can diminish the experience if the director isn’t able to balance it out with great characters an an emotive story (see 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody for a great example of a cliché music film done right).
Judging by the film’s trailer, Wild Rose looks like it will hit the mark in telling the classic underdog story while getting the audience invested into the characters and dramas that unfold.
Joining Jessie Buckley in a supporting role is Academy-Award nominated actress Julie Walters, along with Sophie Okonedo.
The film is due for theatrical release on 12 April 2019 in the UK.
