Triple Threat features the best lineup of modern film martial artists to grace the screen together, in what appears to be an action-extravaganza of a film.
Each of the actors in this film are well known on the smaller circuit as being the best in their field – that field being that martial arts sub-genre of action movies.
From top to bottom, Triple Threat features the talents of Iko Uwais of The Raid films; Tony Jaa of the Ong Bak films; Tiger Chen, who starred alongside Keanu Reeves in Man of Tai Chi (2013); Scott Adkins of the Boyka films; Michael Jai White, of Black Dynamite (2009) and Blood and Bone (2009) fame (amongst others); Celina Jade of the popular TV show Arrow; and MMA superstar Michael Bisping, who recently appeared in the blockbuster xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017).
The only better lineup of action stars to appear in a movie together is the one in the The Expendables films.
You could say Triple Threat is the poor man’s Expendables, but I’m not complaining.
The trailer for the film doesn’t reveal anything by way of the plot, however it does highlight some of the spectacular martial arts choreography we can expect from the film.
It’s also quite obvious that this is a B-grade entry into the genre – which is fine because you know what to expect from a film like this, and really, we’re only in it for the kicks, in the end.
The film is directed by Jesse V. Johnson and is due out some time in 2018.
What do you think of this lineup, do you agree with me when I say that it’s probably better than the Expendables one?
