The second The Matrix Resurrections trailer showcases more of the film’s action sci-fi spectacle with a story that looks to blend the old with the new.
Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity in the new film from director Lana Wachowski, which looks set many years after the events of The Matrix Revolutions (2003).
While the official plot is still under wraps, we can see from the trailer that Neo is thrust back into the weird world of The Matrix and has to essentially relive the same plot of the first series of films.
So while that would be an oversimplification and possible worst-case scenario, there seem to be elements of the original trilogy throughout this film, including past characters, themes and motifs that will be familiar to fans.
This re-hashing of plotlines is par for the course when studios reboot old franchises to get new audiences up to speed while giving the old fans some nostalgia, which is quite hit-and-miss.
Thankfully, one half of the original trilogy’s directing duo, Lana Wachowski, is back at the helm, and with fan-favourites Neo and Trinity returning, along with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II taking over the role of Morpheus, the old fans can have something to get excited about.
Furthermore, the sci-fi movie action in this film looks phenomenal, and we can hope that Wachowski has pushed the envelope again, just like back in 1999 with the original The Matrix.
