Yes you read that correctly, there is a movie about emoji in the works, aptly titled The Emoji Movie – check out the first teaser trailer.
This first teaser simply gives us an introduction to the ‘Meh’ emoji, complete with arms, legs, and hair.
It seems like a very strange idea to make a film about a bunch of smartphone-keyboard smiley-faces, but this is modern day Hollywood we’re talking about, so nothing is sacred.
However, considering how smartphones and the use of emoji’s in texting has become a part of life for a lot of people, it’s not too surprising that filmmakers in Hollywood would want to capitalise on something that so many people engage with on a daily basis.
The teaser gives us a very slight look at what to expect from the film’s humour, and it doesn’t appear too bad, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it goes.
The Emoji Movie features the voices of T.J. Miller, James Corden and Ilana Glazer, and is directed by Anthony Leondis, whose only other animated feature film includes Igor (2008).
The film is due out on 4 August 2017 in the USA, check out the teaser trailer below.
