The world’s most macabre family, the Addams Family, end up in the suburbs with regular folk in the upcoming self-titled animated film.
It’s a clash of cultures in the new The Addams Family animated film when Gomez (Oscar Isaac), Morticia (Charlize Theron), Wednesday (Chloë Grace Moretz), Pugsley (Finn Wolfhard) and Uncle Fester (Nick Kroll) find themselves outside of their morbid homestead and into suburbia.
Classic hijinx ensue after Wednesday makes a new friend, much to the dismay of her mother, Morticia.
The film sees the return of the gothic family to the big screen, after having disappeared for a time following 1998’s Addams Family Reunion.
Filmgoers that grew up in the ’90s will have fond memories of the first two Addams Family movies, which featured Raúl Juliá, Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd and Christina Ricci in starring roles.
The fictional household was created by American cartoonist Charles Addams and have been around since 1938 in the form of newspaper cartoons, before being adapted to the visual medium with a popular 1964 TV series.
I’m assuming a lot of young kids may have not even heard of this quirky family yet, so it will be interesting to see how this new film and its characters are received by the kids of today.
Either way, the film looks like it will be a hoot and there should be something in it for everyone.
The Addams Family hits cinemas on 5 December 2019.
