A Woman Takes on the Yakuza in Stylish Action Film ‘Kate’

most Stylish Action Film

Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays a one-woman wrecking machine seeking revenge on the Yakuza in the stylish action film Kate for Netflix.

Winstead plays Kate, a top assassin who is poisoned while on a job in Tokyo, and with only 24 hours to live, seeks vengeance on her would-be killers.

As she leaves a bloody trail in her path, Kate forms an unlikely friendship with the daughter of one of her victims.

The film is brought to us by director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan whose only other credit includes The Huntsman: Winter’s War (2016).

The director has taken cues from another stylish action film, John Wick (2014), which has become the go-to film for new action movie producers to draw inspiration from.

There’s also an Atomic Blonde (2017) vibe, which makes sense considering one of that film’s producers is also behind this one.

By this point, these new action revenge thrillers are being churned out, each looking for a way to differentiate themselves from the pack.

However, they’re all essentially the same film.

How many times can you see a man or woman exact bloody revenge on a gang of criminals before realising you’ve just watched the same movie over and over again?

Nevertheless, these types of movies make for a great sense of escapism, at times when you need to turn your brain off for a while.

Kate seems to fit that bill, so it should make for some mindless viewing fun when it releases on 10 September 2021 on Netflix.
