Disney has today announced the much anticipated title for Star Wars: Episode 8 – which shall officially be called ‘The Last Jedi’.
News on the next Star Wars film has been pretty hush-hush up until today, however now that the title has been revealed, we’ll surely start getting some more marketing material trickling out shortly on the way to the film’s release in December.
The Last Jedi presumably refers to the ongoing story of Luke Skywalker and Rey, the film’s new protagonist.
Fans of 2015’s The Force Awakens will remember the film ending with Rey finding Luke on an isolated planet, and one can only guess that the next film will see Luke train Rey to become a Jedi Knight.
Without any official synopsis for Episode 8 revealed as yet though, the rumour-mill about what the film’s plot will focus on will be exploding right about now.
The thing that strikes me the most about the title isn’t the title itself, but rather the font colour used in the new poster below.
The ‘Star Wars’ typography features a red outline in the official poster, as opposed to the typical yellow we’ve become accustom to.
It must be a reference to the Sith/Dark Side, which one can only surmise will be featured heavily in the upcoming film.
The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.
The film is due for release in Australia on 14 December 2017.
